Tips:

• Skim the assigned reading -- all of it
• Re-read closely
  • Look for information that answers the focus question
  • Take notes!
• Close the text and organize the information you have in a logical order (a- most important items first, b- according to when events happened, or c- any other appropriate order)
• Write a draft.
  • One longer paragraph or,
  • Three shorter paragraphs: a brief introduction with a thesis that re-states the question, a one-paragraph body that answers the question, and a brief conclusion that summarizes the main points
  • Write at least a page or a page and a half
• Write your final answer, preferably in ink or typed
  • Check your grammar and spelling.
  • Put your name, the class name, the assignment ("Chapter 5 focus question") and the date in the up left-hand corner
