Politics elective

improve your general English skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing

course is not designed to be "tutoring" for your elective course.

- Examples
of what you might do in Applied English are:
- Learn and practice vocabulary and grammar that you need
in order to understand lectures, to read the text,
to participate in discussions and make presentations, and to write papers
- Practice listening comprehension and notetaking skills
- Learn and practice writing styles used in universities
in the United States
- Practice choosing and understanding the most important
information when you read
- Practice making presentations and reports
Effort
- You
will get out of this course what you put into it. If you study and pay attention,
you will enjoy yourself and learn.
General
Course Requirements
- Attend
and actively participate in all classes
- Complete
all in-class assignments and homework assignments
- Ask
questions when you do not understand
- Use
English in class 95% of the time because many of your classmates want to improve
their English
- Submit
written work
- that is not copied from another
student, from a book, from a website, or from another source
- that is neat and is typed or legibly
written
- that has been checked for spelling
and grammar
- Call or E-mail me before class
is you absolutely cannot come.
- Quizzes cannot be made up
- Your homework is due even if you are not in class
- If you cannot attend class, you are still
responsible for all classwork and homework
- If you cannot come to class, ask another
student to take notes for you. Check the course website for the homework
assignment.
- Effort, participation and language improvement will determine
your final grade if you are between two grades at the end of the semester.
Poor attendance will lower your grade. Missing more than 20% of the classes
will result in failure, per TIUA policy.
