Making train (or plane) reservations
TIUA student: Hello. I'd like to make a [one-way/round-trip] reservation for two people from Salem to Seattle for Monday, July 7th, in the morning. We'd like to return on Saturday, July 12th, in the afternoon.
Agent: Okay. Would you like to travel in coach or business class?
TIUA student: Coach, please ... as cheaply as possible. Are there any student discounts?
Agent: There is a student fare, but first you have to buy an AMTRAK student card for $20. It's not worth it unless you will travel several times by train. ..... Hmm ... let's see ... Do you want to depart at 6:42 am or 10:12 am?
TIUA student: Oh ... 10:12! The earlier train is too early!
Agent: All right. You'll leave at 10:12 am and arrive in Seattle at 3:55 pm. You'll have to change trains in Portland, but it's easy. Just follow everyone else or ask the conductor. Then, on July 12th, you'll leave Seattle at 2:20 pm and arrive back in Salem at 7:22 pm. You don't need to change trains coming back. The total price for two of you, round-trip, is $154 [one-hundred and fifty-four dollars].
TIUA student: Can we reserve seats?
Agent: No. There are no reserved seats between Salem and Portland. The conductor on the train will assign you seats for the trip between Portland and Seattle. ... Would you like to pay with a credit card?
