Daily Writing for April 4, 2001

Use your own paper. Write your name and group on the top please.

(Write neatly. We will exchange writings with the Willamette students from the Intercultural Communication class. Before we make copies of your writings, we will remove your names.)

Write as much as you can in 45 minutes. Plan your time. Use these questions to guide your writing.

What did you talk about?
How would you describe the conversation today? Interesting (why)? Serious (why)? Educational (how)? Helpful (how)? A waste of time (why)? Useful (how)? Exciting (why)? etc. (think of your own adjectives!)
How would you compare and contrast the conversational styles of the Willamette students and of the TIUA students in your group this morning?
What did you learn about intercultural communication, about conversations, about cultural adjustment, or about culture or society in general? What do you think the Willamette students learned about these topics?

Remember to use what we have learned:
- Paragraph structure: topic sentences and concluding sentences, supporting points, details, and examples
- Correct tenses (for example, past for past events and simple present for things that are generally or always true)
- Passive voice
- Coordinating conjunctions
- Adverbial conjunctions
- Adjective order
- Expressions for comparing and contrasting
