ethnicity (noun): ethnicity is a combination of race, nationality, religion, language, culture, and citizenship

Objectives of the assignment:

The task:

As a pair (two students together), have a conversation, as natural as possible, with at least one "Oregonian": a resident assistant or tutor who lives in Oregon, someone who works at TIUA or in the kitchen, or anyone else. Using very brief notes, write answers to some of these questions as you talk. However, look at the person you talking with and focus on talking not writing! Later, write your answers neatly and in complete sentences on the second copy of this worksheet.

Questions

"We are studying where Oregonians came from. If your family lives in Oregon, may I ask you a few questions for a class assignment? It would take about ten minutes? If other students from our class have asked you, we'll ask someone else."

Do you know when the first person in your family came to Oregon?

Who came and why did he/she/they come?

In which state or country were you born? (If you don't know) Where is that?

How about your parents -- in which state or country were they born?

Do you know where your grandparents and great-grandparents were born?

Is there anything else you can tell me about when and why your family came to Oregon?
