Course
information
- All activities and assignments in this class will be
related to your American History I class taught by Professor Jopp.
- One goal of Applied English is to help you with
the English you need to succeed in your "American History
I" elective.
- Another goal of Applied English is improving your
general English skills.
- You will learn and practice reading, writing, listening
comprehension, discussion and presentation skills.
- Applied English meets separately and carries its own
credit. You will receive a separate grade for Applied English.

Course
requirements and grading
General Course Requirements
- Attend and actively participate in all classes
- Use English in class
- Ask questions when you do not understand
- Complete all in-class and homework assignments
- Submit
- written work that is not copied
from another student or from a book or website,
- written work that is neat and is typed or legibly
written, and
- written work that has been checked for spelling
and grammar
- Call or E-mail me before class is you cannot come
Grades
- Some of your Applied English grade may be determined
by your English performance in history class. As an example,
after Professor Jopp grades an exam or paper, I may grade it, too,
looking at how well you used the English skills we learned and practiced
in class.
- A point system will be used. Each assignment carries
a certain number of points. Your final grade will depend on:
- the percentage of points you earned of the total
points possible
- A+ 97-100%; A 93-96%; A- 90-92%; B+ 87-89%;
B 83-86%; B- 80-82%; C+ 77-79%; C 73-76%; C- 70-72%; F 69%
and below
- Effort and participation will help decided your grade if you are
between two grades at the end of the semester
