Procedure
Purposes
of the final:
- To motivate
you to review and remember what you learned
- To help me
evaluate you and give you a grade
- To give you
a chance to raise your grade!
Come
to room 118 at your assigned time on Tuesday, July 1. Otherwise you are free.
The final will last about 25 minutes.

There will
be three parts
- Listening:
- I'll ask
you some questions using sentences and words we've learned in this course.
You'll answer the questions.
- Speaking:
- You will
tell me about your summer plans for about 1 minute. Include some interesting
detail. Practice and prepare. Use everything we have
learned. Review! Check all pronunciation with a dictionary and a native
speaker! (I may ask you some questions about your plans, too.)
- Your group
will discuss one of these topics. Prepare together!
- What
are the most important differences you have experienced between Japanese
society and American society?
- What
have been the two best experiences you have had so far in the United
States? Why? What were some bad experiences? Why?
- A topic
of your choice. This means that your group can decide its own topic.
- I'll give
you some phrases and have you make a skit using the phrases.
Bring
- Your Longman
dictionary and a bilingual dictionary
- A pencil and
scratch paper
- A few brief
notes, if you wish
How to study
- Review your
notes from class.
- Review the
"warm-ups" and other phrases we learned and practiced in class
- Review the
travel phrases I gave you
- Review the
IPA symbols
- Review the
text: the Introduction (pages vii-ix) and Lessons 1, 2, 3, 5 and 14 (only
the parts we did in class or as homework)
