Sustainability Project:
Cartoon Assignment

Each group will be assigned a cartoon from the Japan for Sustainability website. http://www.japanfs.org/  The cartoons were drawn by Prof. Hiroshi Takatsuki.

Listening/Speaking

1. Work with a partner from your group. Show the Japanese cartoon to five Japanese  people or five Americans and ask them for their reactions to the cartoon.  For example, ask one of these questions, "What does this cartoon say?  What do you think about this cartoon? What is your reaction to this cartoon?" 

Take notes about their reactions.

2.  Be ready to discuss your interview results with your group.  Make a list of the similarities and differences in the reactions of Japanese and American people to the cartoons.




Reading/Writing

1. Work with your partner and write a short summary of the interviews of Japanese or American people above. Write 1 paragraph in Publisher Quick Publications with your partner.

2. After your group discussion of the interview results: write a paragraph on the similarities and differences between the reactions of Japanese and American people to the cartoon. Write 1 paragraph in Publisher Quick Publications. Use compare/contrast transitional expressions.
