  • Write an argumentative essay in response to the statement: People should not be allowed to own handguns. Take one side and present 3 strong arguments(reasons) from your side. Support each argument with specific examples.Use appropriate transitions.Your essay should have at least 5 paragraphs -an introduction with a thesis statement (the last sentence in the introduction which states the main focus of your essay), several body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.
  • Prepare for Reading Quiz #3 on Wednesday. Read assigned articles "More Than Half of All Americans Breathe Unhealthy Air" on p. 1 and "U.S. Needs More Nurses" p. 2 of NFY 4/28 for quiz on Wednesday.
  • Bring Contact USA and your English-English dictionary

    • Thinking of one cultural difference to compare between Japanese and American culture. Also, review how to organize a compare/contrast paragraph, and the types of transitions to use;
    • review how to describe a process and the the types of transitions to use;
    • Choose one of the four topics and think of some good arguments and specific examples for your side. Also, think about how to organize an argumentative essay and the types of transitions to use.

  • Choose an article to read in the 4/7 NFY. Be prepared to talk about your article in a small group discussion. Write 2 discussion questions about the topic of your article.

  • Practice reading some things in English because we will have a reading quiz on Wednesday. I will give you an article to read in class, and I will also give you some questions about the article to answer in class. The best way to study for this is to practice reading in English. For the quiz you may use your English-English dictionary, so be sure to bring it to class.
  • Get some sleep!!!
