The History of Internet

1. Difinition of Internet: Most of us use this term "Internet" to mention the physical structure of the Net; connection between client and server computers with phone lines. On the other hand, we use the term "web" to refer to the sites which have much information on the internet when we use the Internet to research something.

2. Origin of internet

A, 1957; The United States forms the Advanced Research Projects Agency(ARPA) within the Department of Defense(DoD).

B, 1967; ACM Symposium on Operating Principles in the USA features a plan for a pocket-switching network, the form of data transmission to be used on Internet.

C, 1968-9; ARPA begins to investigate methods of connecting computers in a method, ARPA commissioned by US Dept of Defense.

D, 1972-3; ARPA becomes DARPA, which begins to investigate method of linking pocket-switched computer networks themselves together to form even larger networks. England and Norway connect to ARPANET for research.

3. During 1980s, there is development of internet. In 1984, the NSF (National Science Fondation) made out NSFNet to establish accesses all over the United States. This Net connected colleges, universities and research group. The NSF and military corporated for networking together, then these two modified communicational language of computer into TCP/IP. This made communication easier. This time, ARPANET became to play major role ofo this new internet. TCP/IC networks basically linked to the ARPANET. In 1989, however, ARPANET was closed because of the Defense Communication Agency.

4. 1990's

1991; The National Science Foundation found a new network. It named NREN, the National Research and Education Network. The purpose of this network is to conduct high speed networking research.

1994; The most significant thing that happened was the growth. Many new networks were added to the NSF backbone. For example, Pizza Hut offers pizza ordering on its Web page.

1995; The National Science Foundation contracted with four companies that would be providers of access to the NSF backbone. These companies would then sell connections to groups, organizations, and companies.
